Identify a token by its network and contract address. Then examine issued supply, scheduled unlocks, and administrator privileges separately. A ticker alone cannot answer any of these questions.
Research problem and method
Start with a primary source for the contract
Get the address from a documented source and verify the network. For USDC, the issuer lists addresses for multiple networks. Record the address you examined. A presale without a verifiable contract leaves the asset identity unresolved.
ERC-20 defines a method for reading total contract supply. An estimate of circulating supply needs additional rules for holdings such as treasury balances and locked tokens. Record the source, block height, and units. An announced unlock is a schedule entry. Actual release requires separate evidence.
Decide which privileges matter before reviewing a contract, such as minting, pausing, and changing its implementation. The functions available depend on the contract. If evidence is missing, record the open question and date so a later finding can be traced.
